Group dating in New Zealand is a hot and growing trend. However, understandably many of our members at Date with Eight don’t have a lot of experience in the group dating scene. Relax, we’ve got you covered.

Each Date with Eight event is carefully selected to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Still, there are a few tips for group dating that we’d like to share with you!

Make a Great First Impression

One saying that never goes out of style is “you never get a second chance to make a great first impression.” This is as true in a group setting as it is when you’re one-on-one. When you arrive for your date, take the time to properly introduce yourself to everyone. This will help set the tone for the rest of the date.

Wallflower or Showoff?

Group dates are a relaxed way to meet new people and have a fun evening. It’s not about who can stand out among the crowd the loudest. Whether you’re meeting for a game of Bingo or a night of hot food and hot music; don’t force yourself into being the centre of attention.

Now, if you’re off for a long night of karaoke or dancing then a little showing off may be a good thing. However, there’s a difference between a little innocent skill flaunting and “look at me!” The former is good, the latter may seem desperate.

Gauge the tone of the evening and adapt accordingly. Remember, you’re there to have fun.

Engage with Everyone

Many people go into a group date situation hoping to connect with at least one person. However, don’t forget that there are seven other people to have fun with! Group dates aren’t just about finding one person in a crowd.

Be active and try to include everyone in the conversation and activities. Some people may need a little encouragement before opening up. Group dates are most successful when everyone is active and having a good time. Encourage that and you never know who you may wind up clicking with!

Go With the Flow

One of the best things about group dating is being able to open yourself up to new experiences. Never tried Indian food before? Give it a go. Not a great dancer? Relax and have fun with it. You won’t be the only person who isn’t a pro.

Stepping outside your comfort zone is a great way to try new things in a low-pressure situation. Odds are, you aren’t the only one trying something new. So, relax and have fun.
